In response, the Victorian Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Natalie Hutchins, published a Statement on Self-Determination confirming the government's support for both Constitutional recognition and a treaty process.
The Victorian government held a series of community forums in April and May to decide on a process for treaty negotiations. Ms Hutchins said, 'The contents of a treaty can't be decided by the Government alone, they have to arise from a co-operative process with Victorian Aboriginals'.
